He's Back!
Sammy Terry is once again opening the crypt to scare and entertain you . But with a new twist! He is telling ghostly tales from our own back yard. Bob Carter was in love with this idea months ago when Peggy McClelland approached him with the concept. Peggy is the president of Producers Plus. A local production company who produces the Hoosier Lottery show along with working with the greatest team in the NFL, the Indianapolis Colts. Peggy got her start at WTTV 4 in 1975 as a member of the crew and she was the voice to the Sammy Terry intro in the 80's. You know..."Arise my love wih tales of woe" as well as providing reversed audio takes that made up the later versions of the voice of our beloved George. She went on to be the Production Manager at WTTV until 1989 when she left for about 6 years to work in Hawaii. After returning to the mainland, she went "back home" to WTTV, once again taking the helm of the production and promotion departments. While Bob ran his music store, Peggy was answering to the public as to the where abouts of Sammy Terry. A daunting task considering the fact that aside form a hand full of  appearances around Halloween, Sammy was no where to be found. However....In 1999 she convinced Bob to bring Sammy back to celebrate WTTV's 50'th anniversary. For many ,including myself, that was the moment that I realized how much I had taken for granted. With the continued demand for the video's that were produced of Sammy Terry hosts Night Of The Living Dead and the WTTV 4 50'th year special, Peggy has once again convinced Bob to don the guise of Sammy Terry! But unlike the 1999 venture, this concept COULD be a regular addition to our television programing! That's right. Bob is considering a weekly return to the air waves. That is where WE come in. If the numbers are right and Peggy can sell it locally they hope to bring Sammy back on a regular schedule. And the numbers meaning the Indianapolis area. The more viewers...the more numbers. Tell your neighbors to watch! Tell them to tell there neighbors to watch! For God sakes...This is America. You have the voice to say " I want Sammy......not the Simpsons" But I digress.....The shooting of the show was a moment I will never forget! Working with Bob and Peggy and all of the guys at Producers Plus was a treat! And it was an honor to provide the art work behind the set window. Look familiar? As well as a myriad of other props.
Speaking of props. There was the greatest effort
to find every remaning item of the show. Including
this candle holder from the 70"s!
As much as the 1999 shows were a treat to see, This effort in my opinion is by far a closer look at an older version of Sammy. Both in the props and the over all atmosphere of the set. The colors of the lighting are more reminiscent to the 80's version of Sammy. That and Bob was having a BLAST! And that is carried over into his performance. Giving one a feeling that you had as a kid. And to add to the treat is the fact that we don't have to share sammy with a movie. We get a full hour of Sammy Terry enjoying what it is that he does best! Telling stories. In fact stories from right here in Indiana. But I'm not giving any away. They are from a book written by Wanda Willis called "Haunted Hoosier Trails" and it comes highly recommended.
One of the treats of shooting Sammy Terry Scary Tales was providing dry ice fog to the set for the first time ever. On the authority of Bob himself. As well as a little somthing extra in the Type O coctail.
Thats me!
There were a lot of interesting things to see and do that day. As well as a lot of stories off camera (but I think  they still got recorded) from Sammy about the old days and hopes for the future. It was uplifting to see Bob enjoying what he has not had the chance to do in a while. Being Sammy Terry. All the while knowing that he is in good hands with Peggy and her crew. There were a lot of surprises too. Like seeing Bob eat a Rolly Polly with laytex gloves on! Folks this guy is talented!
Joni Michels stopped by to say "Boo" looking ghoulshy gorgeous as always
Bob Carter...You are one in a million!
